An Inside Look At The Incredible Mercedes-Benz Museum

The Mercedes-Benz Museum, located in Stuttgart, Germany, is one of the most intense places you will ever see for automotive content. With well over 100 different legendary vehicles there at a time, it is an incredible place to visit. Whether you are into history and are more interested in older Mercedes-Benz models, or you have a more modern interest in the brand, there will definitely be something for you.

This museum, created to celebrate the automotive excellence that the founder, Carl Benz, started well over 100 years ago, and that he is remembered for, does not disappoint, as it has some incredible things to see that even non “car people” would find interesting. This museum is one of a kind, with 9 floors of excellent engineering and truly amazing designs.

This 16,500 square meter, 12 room museum is one for the ages, and is a must-see for car enthusiasts of any age..

Years In The Making

The museum takes you all the way back 134 years to 1886, despite the fact that the actual year the company known as Mercedes-Benz was founded was 1926. With this you get a very close look into how and where the entire company originated from, and how it came to be the business we all know today. This includes talking about some of the most significant people ever in the company, including the founding fathers of the business: Karl Benz, Gottlieb Daimler, Wilhelm Maybach, and Emil Jellinek. If you are wondering where the “Mercedes” part of Mercedes-Benz came from, it’s actually from Emil Jellinek’s daughter who was named Mercedes, something only a place like this would tell you.

Legends Of Mercedes

Along with practically everything about the company’s rich history, there are also exhibits on the true legends of Mercedes-Benz, and while there are some you may know of, such as the Mercedes-Benz 300SL, famous for its gullwing doors that go straight up, along with its spectacular design, there are many others you probably don’t know much about at all.

There are, in fact, 7 whole exhibits on legendary Mercedes models from the company’s history. There are legendary Mercedes models for practically every category possible, from models that were the true pioneers of the brand to much more modern vehicles made to mark a new age of more environmentally friendly, less emission exerting vehicles.

Rich Racing History

One of the most notable “Legend” exhibits is the Silver Arrow exhibit. For those newer to the brand’s history, Silver Arrow is the name given to Mercedes-Benz’s race cars, because of how successful they are and how almost every Mercedes-Benz race car ever made is silver, because in their early years, the company decided the color represents racing success (even though in many contexts, silver actually represents second place).

The Silver Arrow exhibit, as you would assume, features every Mercedes-Benz race car ever made in their whole history. This includes their modern day F1 cars as well as the first racing vehicles ever made by the company, even though those originals would struggle to be able to reach most modern day speed limits.

This exhibit gives you a truly strong understanding of just how much times have changed the modern race cars’ design, power, speed, and much more. With a solid interest in racing innovations, Mercedes has even produced semi trucks built to race as if they are full fledged race cars going on a track.

Another one of the more interesting exhibits that you can see is the Post-War Miracle Exhibit, which features some of the greatest models ever produced. These vehicles, as the title implies, are some of those produced in the period post World War 2. This includes cars like the 300SL, which now sells for around $3 million used, as well as its related models, such as the convertible version, along with a number of other beautiful models from this time.

These incredible sights and many, many more are what truly make the Mercedes-Benz brand so special and unique. The company has had such a rich history, with so many memories and milestones, and they are fantastically showcased in this incredible museum. This insane collection of vehicles, along with the immense history behind the cars, makes the Mercedes-Benz Museum an amazing place to visit.
