There are a lot of places in the world that have been abandoned, due to various reasons, there are places used to be home of gold and diamond minings and we're deserted because the land refuses to yield any more gem for their wealth.

Yes this was once a city in China, it was built as a replica of the city of Light(Paris), with its own Elysees buildings and a 300Ft tall Eiffel Tower.

The Chicken Church also called Geri Ayam, is a church built to resemble a chicken in the jungles of central Java, it was built in the 1900s, until the cost of building became too high and the church was abandoned in the year 2000.
This is an abandoned village in an island in Houtouwan , Shengshan island, China. The used to host mostly fishermen but most of the inhabitant moved in-land(to the land areas) in the 1990s. The place used to harbour many minerals miners and the train station was built to aid the transportation of these minerals to the city. But later on, the minerals ran out and the transaction stopped functioning, the miners deserted the place with their equipment still lying here and there. Although they have corroded over time, the place still serve as a tourist attraction.
